Start: Tarn Hut
Finish: Mt Rintoul Hut
Distance: 9km

Because it was a short day today we decided to treat ourselves to a bit of a sleep in but still ended up leaving just after 8am.

I knew today was going to be relatively okay, there was one climb up to Purple Top but it was nicely split into 3 sections and when we left the hut I realised we’d be climbing up through the forest, which I love.

The forest was so beautiful and alive with birdsong. It was awesome chill walking along the ridge and we bumped into 6 SOBOs who gave us their take on the Rintouls and the coming weather, which we’re still not sure what to do about.

After about 4 hours of me stopping every hour for a rest we reached the top!

1500m above seal level and the views were insane. We could see all the way over to the ocean and layers of hills around us.

We stopped for some snacks and chatted to Tenley and Uwe when they caught up and then the descent started. First along the side of the mountain and then along the ridge which offered up even more views.

Then we headed back into the forest and kept descending before suddenly out of nowhere the hut appeared infront of me.

We chatted to Nick and Zara, and Tenley and Uwe before they continued on, hoping to do the Rintouls and get out tomorrow before the weather.

We then spent the afternoon relaxing and eating lots of food to lighten our packs for the Rintouls tomorrow.
